Review of "India’s Contribution to Management", in January 2001 issue of Swagat:

When indigenisation has become the buzzword, yet another book with the word India in the title is bound to evoke scepticism. However, withhold your judgement till you have read this book for it really is different. A collection of thought-pieces and articles, it provides an alternative view on management philosophy to what is found in the core texts on management. Taking into account the human factor, the book explores the holistic, spiritually-based contribution that India can make in the field of management. Though the financial, strategic, accounting and marketing systems in this field have been honed to a greater degree of perfection, the author feels that the human systems-- the view of humans, the way they interact and an understanding of who they are-- are still, a fledgling practice. It is to strengthen this aspect of management that this book has been written. The text follows a tripartite structure. The first part, "The Possibility", examines how India's uniqueness places it in a position to provide critical components which would be able to greatly enhance the field of management. The second part, "The Imperative", states the need for change in the management approach. "The Future", the third part, demonstrates what future management may evolve into by using traditional Indian philosophy as a guiding principle. In a world driven by crass motivation, the book is a timely intervention. It is a reminder for one who believes in the philosophy of Sri Aurobindo, that no system can lead to harmony and happiness when it neglects the human factor. All systems should, therefore, be aimed at uplifting the people. Valuable and relevant, the publication will be of interest to any person interested in business and organisational development."
